A Day in the Life of…

Nicolas Neussues, Specifications Manager for Knauf UAE. He works with the Technical Department and has been with Knauf since April 2011.

Q. What is a typical day (or week) for you?

A: A typical day in our department does not exist. Every day a new challenge awaits you. There might be an enquiry form for a consultant that you have to visit, in or out of the UAE, and discuss and explain systems matching his requirements for his project. The gained information of this meeting has to be transformed into our existing Knauf Systems, according to the standard the project requires. Site inspections are typical as well and you have to be ready to visit a site, inspect the conducted work, explain on site to the contractor the Knauf System and the right way of installation and write a site inspection report with all findings and suggestions. I also prepare technical proposals based on the information received by the client and follow up with the client if the information is not sufficient.

Q: What decisions do you make?

A: Proposing Knauf Systems based on our test results.

Q: How did you begin your career?

A: I am a career changer, my background was more Sales orientated, but technical work integrates with my communication skills and also provides myself with skill work opportunities to learn and develop.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is considering this type of job?

A: My advice would be to be aware that there will be frequent traveling required within the UAE and the Middle East. This is not a typical office job. It is a mix between an office job and field work. If you are ready to communicate with customers face-to-face, explain and discuss technical details with engineers and architects and convincing them that Knauf Systems are the way to go, then you are the right person for this job.

Q: How does your position fit within the organization?

A: I am a key member of the technical team, focusing on specification of Knauf Systems related to project requirements.
